All the pieces you see here are segmented woodturnings.  They are created by cutting boards into small pie shaped pieces and then glued into rings.  The rings are then stacked and glued together to form a vessel.  The vessel is then turned on a lathe to a finished shape.
The images are burned in with a woodburning tool and the piercing is done with a dental drill turning at 400,000 RPM.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Death, in most instances, brings an end to all living things.  One exception is trees.  The wood that they provide can be used in a multitude of ways ranging from construction to furniture to art.  Properly treated and maintained, wood can endure the elements for many centuries.  It can be shaped and formed in limitless ways to bring pleasure and serenity to it’s viewers.  Although pleasing shapes and forms have been around for thousands of years, each piece I create is unique in that there has never been and never will be another one exactly the same.  This, of course, comes from the beauty and individuality of each and every tree on this earth and they all have the potential to live on long after death.  It gratifies me to think that the works I create today will be viewed, discussed, and enjoyed by people in the next century.
